Thanos, played by Josh Brolin, comes to earth to unite all infinity stones. In order to fight him, the Avengers need to join their forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy, who have problems of their own.

Infinity Stones (space, soul, reality, time, power, mind) are cosmic stones with special powers that its wielder can use. Uniting all infinity stones will give the owner the power over the whole universe.

To really understand the movie, you need to know which Infinity Stone gives which power to his owner. That way, you’ll also understand why Thanos is so obsessed with them.

Space Stone (Tesseract)

The Space Stone is comparable to an instant portal. Its wielder can be anywhere at any time and even be at different places simultaneously.

The blue cube is discovered by Red Skull in a sanctuary in Norway in the movie “Captain America: The First Avenger” (2010). Later, it falls into the hands of S.H.I.E.L.D., from which Loki steals it in the movie “The Avengers” (2012). At the end of the movie, the cube is brought to Asgard and it appears again in the movie “Thor: Ragnarok”.

Mind Stone

The Mind Stone not only gives access to all thoughts and dreams of every being, but it is also a portal to the collective consciousness of the entire universe.

Loki’s scepter was a gift from Thanos and it was central part of the story in some movies. It was used by Loki to control Hawkeye, by Tony Stark to create Ultron and it helped Wanda and Pietro Maximoff to discover their powers. Currently, the Mind Stone is implanted in the android Vision.

Reality Stone

The physical laws of the universe can be broken or eliminated with the Reality Stone, because it makes every wish come true.

Used by the elf Malekith as a weapon in “Thor: The Dark World” (2013), the stone is in safe hands again at the end of the movie. To avoid that two stones are too close to each other, the Asgardians decide to leave the stone with the Collector - which turns out to be a foolish idea, as his museum is destroyed in “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Power Stone

It allows access to all power and energy that ever existed and will ever exist and it can power any machine with unlimited energy. The wielder of this stone is practically invincible.

Star Lord finds the Power Stone on the desert planet Morag. The stone is at the centre of attention in the movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”, and at the end, it is left with Nova Prime on the planet Xandar. Only very powerful beings can use the Power Stone, which is capable of destroying whole planets.

Time Stone

The Time Stone gives its wielder complete control of the flow of time, so the ability to manipulate events and change the course of history.

The stone in the centre of the Eye of Agamotto, which is used by Doctor Strange to manipulate time, is obviously the Time Stone. It is used by Strange to fight the sorcerer Kaecilius and later put back on its place in Kamar-Taj.

Soul Stone

It is the only stone no one knows its whereabouts. It allows its wielder to steal, manipulate and change the souls of the living and the dead. Besides, it can imprison them in a kind of limbo. The most popular fan theories state that the stone might be with Adam Warlock, Heimdall or Black Panther.

Well, now you’re ready to watch “Avengers: Infinity War” and don’t need to fear that you don’t understand the importance of the Infinity Stones in the movie.

Enjoy the movie!
