Sockerarter rör sig upp och ner i växten i floem. Floem använder aktiv transport för att transportera mat näringsämnen som glukos och aminosyror runt växten.
Glukos görs i bladen genom fotosyntes. Glukos omvandlas till sackaros i bladen, som sedan kommer in i floemkärlen, liksom aminosyror. De måste sedan transporteras runt växten till varje enskild cell.
Områdena i växten där sackaros tillverkas kallas källorna, och där de levereras kallas sänkor.
Floem använder aktiv transport eftersom sackaros rör sig mot sin koncentrationsgradient från en lägre koncentration, där den görs, till en högre koncentration i floemcellerna.

In this video, we are going to look at parallel lines. To find the equation of parallel lines, we still use the y=mx + c equation, and because they have the same gradient, we know straight away that the gradient ‘m’ will be the same. We then just need to find the missing y-intercept ‘c’ value.
