Let's talk! Felipe - Spanish temperament

Shortly introduce yourself: Who are you and what are you doing? 

I’m Felipe from Santiago de Chile and I’m in my eighth semester of communication design at the University of Mannheim. A few years ago, I had the idea to emigrate to Europe to educate myself academically in the field of design. 

Which three keywords describe you best?

Perfectionist, sometimes hyperactive, loyal 

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?

As a designer, I always try to spend my free time differently to clear my head. I like going to the gym or having dinner with friends best. If there’s time, I grab my guitar and play some jazz songs of Jamie Cullum or Joy Division. 

What guided you to alugha?

When I came across alugha’s ad, I immediately thought: “That’s the perfect job for me!”. Since alugha is a very multicultural startup, it offers a lot of opportunities to develop yourself professionally and, at the same time, exchange cultural values.

What are your tasks at alugha?

Among other things, my tasks at alugha include improving the user interfaces of the user experience. Thus, I’m heavily involved in finding new ideas that, in collaboration with our developers, bring the company forward. Furthermore, I often answer questions about Spanish grammar. 

What do you like about the work here?

In a minimum of time, you put heart and soul into the work here. Alugha is OUR baby that we always improve and develop further. With it, we want to tell the world that it is very easy to deliver a message in various languages.

What does design mean to you personally?

You can compare design with drawing. It’s like drawing a line on a sheet of paper with a pencil. Little by little, you get a pattern by connecting the individual elements. And in the end, after working painstakingly and using erasers excessively, the illustrator gets his picture. Design is the art of creating something unique with your artistic skill and mind. 

Where do you see yourself and the company in the future?

Alugha is going to grow rapidly. I assume that we’ll grow from 20 to 80 employees in the near future. We live in a society that has to say something and actively communicates with the whole world. That’s why I think that the alugha concept was developed at the right time and place. As for me, in 5 to 10 years, I see myself as senior UX/UI designer, pleased with my achievements, maybe somewhere in Europe at a sunny and idyllic place by the sea.

The last point is about big dreams - do you have some? 

I want to see, learn and experience as much as possible in life. I also want to meet great people, and being able to look at the past and say: “How cool was that!”.
