"The Hunger Games" - Review part 2
Today, we are focusing on the second installment of the “Hunger Games” series.
Here we go again.
After winning the Hunger Games as a couple, Katniss and Peeta want nothing but peace. But Snow, the president of Panem, sees Katniss as a threat of an upcoming rebellion and decides to eliminate her. However, it seems too late for that, because Katniss’ actions already created a spark of hope for an independent life. Snow orders Katniss to appease and calm the population of Panem during the victory tour, or else he will do a mischief to her family.
In the second installment of the trilogy, Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), yet another great actor, enters the story as the new Head Gamemaker. To get rid of Katniss, he and Snow decide to announce the 75th Hunger Games featuring tributes selected from previous victors. Of course, Katniss has to compete for District 12 again, and Peeta follows her into the fight. Thereupon, Katniss makes a pact with her mentor Haymitch to save Peeta instead of her if something is going to happen to one of them. In the pre-Games interviews, Katniss appears in a white dress that transforms into a mockingjay costume, leading to her stylist Cinna getting brutally killed.
In the arena, Katniss and Peeta ally with other tributes and overcome many deadly dangers, eventually figuring out and breaking the system of the arena. Katniss gets rescued out of the arena, which has been Plutarch’s plan all along, because he has a lot of sympathy for the fighter. Together with her family, she is brought to District 13, a district once thought to be destroyed, where she also meets Gale again. Meanwhile, the Capitol made sure that District 12 was reduced to rubble. Only Peeta is missing…
Is this the end or just the beginning? You will soon find out in our next post.
