Ein Krankheitserreger ist ein Mikroorganismus, der Krankheiten verursachen kann. Krankheitserreger können Viren, Bakterien, Protisten oder Pilze sein.
Beispiele für Bakterieninfektionen sind Cholera, Typhus, Lebensmittelvergiftung und Gonorrhö. Beispiele für Virusinfektionen sind die Grippe (Influenza), Masern, Mumps, normale Erkältungen und AIDS. Einige häufige Hautpilzerkrankungen sind Fußpilz und Ringelflechte. Malaria ist ein Beispiel für einen Protistenerreger.
