Hello and welcome to Bobby's Bass here on hoTodi.tv.
0:03 → 0:11
I'm Ralf Bopp and today we'll take a look at "How do I find the notes of C major on an electric bass?"
0:20 → 0:24
In the last session we learned the notes of C major,
0:24 → 0:34
which are C D E F G A B and C.
0:34 → 0:41
We also learned there is a full step or a half step between each note.
0:41 → 0:49
So we know that between E and F and B and C there is a half step and between the other notes of the C major scale always a whole step.
0:49 → 0:51
What does this mean?
0:51 → 0:59
Between E and F one fret, between B and C one fret, otherwise always two frets, okay, good.
0:59 → 1:02
First, let's look at the E-string, so...
1:04 → 1:06
this is a low E.
1:07 → 1:10
There's a half step between E and F, so what does this mean?
1:12 → 1:13
One fret higher.
1:14 → 1:18
So we play an F on the first fret on the E string.
1:22 → 1:25
There's a whole step between F and G, so what does this mean?
1:26 → 1:28
Right, two frets.
1:30 → 1:34
So we play a G on the third fret on the E string.
1:38 → 1:42
Another whole step between G and A so two frets.
1:43 → 1:50
This one is pretty common for tuning and various exercises, we play an A on the fifth fret on the E string.
1:55 → 2:04
Another whole step on the c major scale between A and B, two frets, so a B on the seventh fret.
2:08 → 2:15
And we know there's a half step between B and C, so one fret higher means we play a C on the eighth fret on the E string.
2:20 → 2:27
There's a whole step between C and D so two frets higher...
2:29 → 2:31
we play a D on the tenth fret.
2:33 → 2:42
And finally another whole step between D and E, two frets, so we play an E
2:44 → 2:46
on the twelfth fret.
2:49 → 2:53
This is basically the octave of the open string.
2:55 → 2:57
Let's continue with the A string.
2:59 → 3:06
We know there's a whole step between A and B, two frets, so we play a B on the second fret on the A string.
3:10 → 3:18
A half step between B and C, one fret, so we play a C on the third fret on the A string.
3:21 → 3:28
There's a whole step between C and G, two frets, so we play a D on the fifth fret on the A string.
3:34 → 3:41
Another whole step between D and E, two frets higher again, so we play an E on the seventh fret.
3:45 → 3:47
The octave of the open string.
3:50 → 3:57
A half step between E and F, one fret higher, we play an F on the eighth fret.
4:01 → 4:08
There's a whole step between F and G, two frets, so we play a G on the tenth fret.
4:11 → 4:21
And finally on the twelfth fret an A because there's a whole step between G and A, two frets, so twelfth fret A
4:27 → 4:29
Let's just continue.
4:30 → 4:33
How do we find the notes of the C major scale on the D string?
4:33 → 4:39
So this is a D, we know there's a half step between D and B, what does this mean?
4:39 → 4:43
Two frets higher, so we play an E on the second fret on the D string.
4:48 → 4:54
A half step between E and F, one fret, so we play an F on the third fret on the D string.
4:57 → 5:03
There's a whole step between F and G, so we play a G on the fifth fret on the D string.
5:07 → 5:13
Another whole step between G and A, two frets, so we play an A on the seventh fret.
5:15 → 5:22
A whole step between A and B, two frets, so we play a B on the ninth fret.
5:25 → 5:31
Since it's a half step, we play a C on the tenth fret on the D string.
5:32 → 5:37
And finally, you guessed it, a D on the twelfth fret.
5:41 → 5:43
We are almost done, just one more string to go.
5:45 → 5:46
This is the G string.
5:46 → 5:56
There's a whole step between G and A, two frets, so we play an A on the second fret on the G string.
5:58 → 6:06
Another whole step between A and B, so two frets, we play a B on the fourth fret on the G string.
6:07 → 6:14
Then a half step higher means we play a C on the fifth fret on the G string.
6:16 → 6:24
A whole step between C and D, two frets, so we play a D on the seventh freth on the F string.
6:27 → 6:35
Another whole step between D and E, two frets higher, so we play an E on the ninth fret.
6:38 → 6:44
There's a half step between E and F, so we play an F on the tenth freth on the G string.
6:47 → 6:50
And finally, you guessed it, a G on the twelfth fret.
6:57 → 7:02
So these are all the notes of the C major scale on an electric bass.
7:04 → 7:06
If it was too fast, don't worry,
7:06 → 7:14
hoTodi will show a link, where you can download the notes and also an explanation of the fretboard with the notes
7:14 → 7:17
so that you can continue at home at your own pace.
7:17 → 7:21
That's it for today with Bobby's bass here on hoTodi.tv
7:21 → 7:25
I'm looking forward to our next workshop, see you then, your Ralf Bobby Bopp.
