Le piante hanno un sistema di trasporto per spostare le cose.
Lo xilema sposta l'acqua e i soluti, dalle radici alle foglie in un processo noto come traspirazione.
Il floema sposta glucosio e amminoacidi dalle foglie intorno alla pianta, in un processo noto come traslocazione.
Lo xilema e il floema sono disposti in gruppi chiamati fasci vascolari. La disposizione è leggermente diversa nelle radici rispetto agli steli. Lo xilema è costituito da cellule morte, mentre il floema è costituito da cellule viventi.
