Supported browsers

Summary

alugha works in every modern browser. Below is the official support matrix. Both for the alugha web app (creating and managing videos) and for the alugha player (watching videos and viewing embeds).

Recommended browsers

For the best experience use the latest stable version of:

  • Google Chrome. MacOS, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS.
  • Microsoft Edge. Windows, macOS.
  • Apple Safari. MacOS 13+, iOS 16+.
  • Mozilla Firefox. MacOS, Windows, Linux.

We support the two most recent major versions of each browser. Older versions may work but are not actively tested.

alugha player (watching videos)

The alugha player is more broadly compatible than the web app. It runs in any browser with HTML5 video and JavaScript:

  • Chrome (last 2 years of versions) : ✅
  • Edge (last 2 years) : ✅
  • Safari (last 2 years on macOS, iOS 14+) : ✅
  • Firefox (last 2 years) : ✅

  • In-app browsers (Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Slack) : ✅

Embedded players inherit the host browser’s capabilities, if your visitor can play a YouTube embed they can play an alugha embed.

Mobile devices

Watching videos: the alugha player works in every modern mobile browser. Safari on iOS and Chrome on Android are both fully supported.

Editing videos in the dubbr: the dubbr is designed for desktop. It opens on tablets and phones but the timeline is hard to use at small widths. Use a laptop or desktop for editing.

Required browser features

For everything to work, the browser needs:

  • JavaScript enabled
  • Cookies enabled for alugha.com (for sign-in and session)
  • HTML5 video. Standard in every modern browser
  • WebSocket support, for live status updates and AI job progress
  • Fetch API, for the dubbr’s API calls
  • WebRTC. Only if you use the Recording feature

Most are enabled by default. If you use strict privacy mode or a content blocker, allow alugha.com in the exception list.

Common browser-related issues

The video does not play:

  • Update your browser to the latest version.
  • Check that JavaScript and cookies are enabled.
  • Disable strict tracker blockers for alugha.com.
  • Try a different browser to isolate the issue.

The dubbr is sluggish:

  • Use the latest Chrome, Edge, or Safari, the dubbr benefits from the newest JS engines.
  • Close other tabs, the timeline uses noticeable memory on long videos.
  • Use desktop, not mobile, for editing.

Embeds do not load on my site:

  • Check the visitor’s browser version. Very old browsers may not render iframes correctly.
  • Confirm your site does not block alugha.com in the Content Security Policy (frame-src).
