Five Ethical Challenges of Neuralink-like Advanced Brain Computer Interfaces

Advanced brain computer interfaces like the one being developed by Elon Musk’s Neuralink have the potential to transform our lives for the better. But they also come with complex ethical challenges. In this collaboration with Elma Hajric, Risk Bites dives into some of ethical risks and responsible innovation challenges associated with Neuralink-like advanced brain machine interfaces. Elma is currently a PhD student in the Human and Social Dimension of Science and Technology program in Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society. The video is part of Risk Bites series on Public Interest Technology - technology in the service of public good. USEFUL LINKS Neuralink: Neuralink’s Technology Is Impressive. Is It Ethical? Solution Focused Risk Assessment and Emerging Technologies

What is solution-focused risk assessment, and how can it help in the governance of emerging technologies? Solution-focused risk assessment, or SFRA, is a novel way of thinking about and managing risks developed by Adam Finkel. It involves analyzing the good and bad consequences of what we can do to
