Chinstrap Penguin facts: one of the only penguins with a white face | Animal Fact Files

Chinstrap penguins are some of the only penguin species with a white face. They have a cute little line of black across their chin giving them the appearance of wearing a helmet. These little birds live in Antarctica among other places and are the most populous of all the penguin species - they're also supposedly some of the most aggressive! Chinstraps make the nests out of pebbles. Babies are born during the warmest parts of the year (which are technically winter in the northern hemisphere). The chicks are raised in groups called a creche and they'll take to the water once they've grown enough to live on their own not returning to the breeding grounds for a few years. Scientific Name: Pygoscelis antarcticus Range: Antarctica, Southern Africa and South America, New Zealand Size: 25 inches (64cm) tall and weigh anywhere from 7 to 14 (3-6kg) pounds depending on the time of year Diet: krill and fish Lifespan: 20 years You can learn more on: Twitter - https://twitter.com/animalfactfiles Facebook - https://facebook.com/animalfactfiles --- We always do what we can to be as accurate as possible but we're only human; if you catch a mistake please let us know and provide a link for verification! --- All images, videos and sound effects used herein are 1) public domain, 2) used under a Creative Commons license*, 3) used with the express permission of the copyright holder, or 4) used under the parameters of Fair Use law.
