🇨🇩 Democratic Republic of the Congo - President Addresses UN General Debate, 77th Session (English)

Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 20-26 September 2022). The President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo, called upon the United Nations to become more actively involved in the fight against terrorism in the country and the Great Lakes region. Addressing the General Assembly today (20 Sep), the Head of State highlighted the recommendations of the Global Coalition Against Islamic State and the Aqaba process as areas where the UN should “become actively involved”. Tshilombo said that “despite tireless efforts internal efforts and massive military and diplomatic presence from the UN in Congo for 23 years, this security problem continues to affect” his country, particularly the East. “In order to eradicate insecurity once and for all, achieve lasting peace and to ensure stability in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, several agreements were signed with armed groups and even with neighboring countries under the guarantee of the international community. National and international mechanisms were created,” said Tshilombo. “All of these prospects only lasted for a few months.” Now, the President assured, “the Congolese people are determined once and for all, to put an end to insecurity in the east of our country, whatever the cost.” According to Tshilombo, “the time has come to once and for all break the infernal cycle of violence in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to stabilize the Great Lakes region, so as to benefit as much as possible from its economic potential, as well as from its rich biodiversity to save humanity in the face of climate change.” The Head of State also mentioned the war in Ukraine and the effects the conflict is having in Africa, namely in terms of food security. For Tshilombo, “it is essential that the United Nations diligently intervene more firmly to extinguish this flame with absolute respect for the rules of the international law.” ---------------------------------------- Watch this video in the Original Language Spoken: https://youtu.be/JOH3tjPaQEA شاهد هذا الفيديو باللغة العربية على موقعنا 请在联合国网络电视(UN Web TV)观看中文版视频 Regardez cette vidéo en français sur UN Web TV Vean este video en español en UN Web TV Смотрите это видео на русском на UN Web TV https://media.un.org/en/asset/k1p/k1p0tvym9e Screenshot credit: UN Photo/Cia Pak #UNGA #UnitedNations
