Les infections à l'hépatite B et C provoquent un carcinome hépatocellulaire (CHC) en se reproduisant dans les hépatocytes. Il en résulte une inflammation, la mort cellulaire et la prolifération. La prévention de l'hépatite est importante pour réduire le risque de cancer du foie. On peut y parvenir en augmentant les normes d'hygiène et les programmes de vaccination.
