A sociopath is someone suffering from a serious psychiatric condition called antisocial personality disorder. While no one is born with this disorder, it is associated with a pattern of antisocial behavior that began before the age of 15. Recognizing a sociopath's personality, despite the existence of telltale indications, can be challenging. Similarly to predatory animals in the wild, sociopaths are masters of camouflage and cunning. Antisocial behavior and an absence of conscience and empathy are hallmarks of the sociopath personality. Knowing the telltale indications of a sociopath can be helpful for you to identify and understand people with these tendencies so that you can set healthy boundaries.
Disclaimer: This video is talking about signs and symptoms of people with antisocial personality disorder (APD), commonly known as “sociopaths”. While APD is a spectrum with different kinds of behaviors, this video covers only the basic traits of this personality. Most of the information in this video can be found in a University textbook ‘Personality Psychology: Domains of Knowledge About Human Nature’ by Randall J. Larsen and David M. Buss.
People with APD can be treated with proper psychiatric and psychological help. But, in many cases, due to the nature of this disorder, they may have a negative influence on people in their lives. The purpose of this video is to present the signs of this disorder to the general audience, in hopes of helping them acquire the knowledge needed for self-protection.
The information in this video serves only as general information. Please don’t use this as a means of diagnosing another person or yourself. Only a mental health professional can assess and diagnose this condition.
