It is the second feature film directed by Kubrick, the first being his 1953 debut feature Fear and Desire. The film stars Jamie Smith, Irene Kane, and Frank Silvera. The film is about Davey Gordon (Jamie Smith), a 29-year-old welterweight New York boxer at the end of his career, and his relationship with his neighbor, taxi dancer Gloria Price (Irene Kane), and her violent employer Vincent Rapallo (Frank Silvera). Davey Gordon is a middleweight boxer near the end of the line. He's set to fight a top upcoming talent, with the winner in line for a title shot. It's obvious that's not going to be Gordon. He's just there to fatten up the contender's KO record. He sits alone in his meager apartment, one step up from a flop-house, brooding away the time till he meets Kid Rodriguez. Across the courtyard, Gloria, an attractive but world-weary taxi dancer, is getting ready for work. Each steal stealthy glances at the other, but their eyes never meet. Walking out of the building, they run into each other but say nothing. Gloria is picked up by her boss Vincent. As Davey is being dropped by one knockdown after another, Gloria is fending off her boss Vincent's persistent pawing. That evening, deep in a disturbing dream, Davey is awakened by a loud scream coming from Gloria's apartment. He rushes to the window and sees that Gloria is being attacked by Vincent. Before he can scamper across the rooftop to her room Vincent hears him coming and makes his getaway. Davey comforts Gloria and offers to stay with her as she drifts off to sleep, silently but curiously inspecting her personal keepsakes and hanging lingerie before leaving. The couple reunites for breakfast at Gloria's, where they share their life stories. With nothing holding either to New York they decide to go together to Davey's Aunt and Uncle's ranch near Seattle, a caring pair who appear to be his only surviving kin who have repeatedly invited him to return. Der Tiger von New York (Originaltitel: Killer’s Kiss) ist ein US-amerikanischer Film-Noir mit Elementen eines Melodrams aus dem Jahr 1955. Regie führte der 26-jährige Stanley Kubrick. Die Low-Budget-Produktion war Kubricks zweiter abendfüllender Kinofilm. Die Handlung beginnt an einem Bahnhof in New York City: Davey Gordon führt ein Selbstgespräch und fragt sich, wie er in diese Schwierigkeiten geraten sein könnte. Dann erinnert er sich einige Tage zurück. Davey Gordon ist ein erfolgloser Boxer, der den Großteil seiner Karriere bereits hinter sich hat. Gerade hat er einen Kampf verloren und sein Onkel in Seattle ruft ihn an und fordert ihn auf, einige Zeit bei ihm und seiner Tante zu verbringen. Davey lebt in einem bescheidenen Apartment in New York. Gegenüber lebt die schöne Gloria, die in einem schäbigen Tanzclub als Tänzerin arbeitet. Der Club gehört Vincent, einem in die Jahre gekommenen Gangster. Dieser begehrt und bedrängt Gloria, die ihn zurückweist. Vincent kann die Zurückweisung nicht ertragen. Als Gloria und Davey sich ineinander verlieben, beschließt sie zu kündigen und die Stadt zu verlassen. Vincent lässt Daveys Manager ermorden – ein Irrtum, da eigentlich Davey hätte sterben müssen. Anschließend lässt Vincent Gloria entführen. Bei dem Versuch, sie zu befreien, liefert sich Davey ein tödliches Duell mit Vincent in einer Fabrik für Schaufensterpuppen. Während des anschließenden Polizeiverhörs werden Davey und Gloria getrennt. Davey wird nicht angeklagt, da er in Notwehr gehandelt hat. Traurig beschließt Davey die Stadt alleine zu verlassen und wartet am Bahnhof auf seinen Zug – die Anfangsszene des Films. Kurz vor der Abfahrt taucht Gloria auf und beide küssen und umarmen sich.
