Environmental impact of cruise ships

NABU has calculated that one cruise ship produces more sulfur dioxide per day than 300 million cars. The particulate matter pollution is equivalent to about one million cars. In addition, one cruise ship produces more carbon dioxide per day than 80,000 cars. On top of that, in many ports there is no shore power. The engines run day and night, producing pollutants around the clock. Causes of air pollution

Air pollution has many causes. The biggest polluter is energy production, with two-thirds of particulate emissions coming from coal-fired power plants. Road traffic and factory farming in agriculture also contribute to this. Author: 3sat/nano/Labo M/Johan von Mirbach/Chris Caliman/Christoph Valenti
