Paikea update: sailing single-handed on the IJsselmeer
⛵ Back on Board – repairs, new equipment & single-handed maneuvers ⛵
A lot of time has passed since the last video – and there’s a lot to tell!
📍 Grounding on the Staande Mastroute
After an unexpected grounding near Groningen, Paikea’s keel was thoroughly inspected and repaired.
⚓ New anchoring setup in use
Paikea got a new anchoring setup – it was high time to test it! In beautiful weather and with a spectacular sunrise and sunset, we enjoyed a wonderful night at anchor.
📘 Book recommendation for single-handed sailors
I read Stress-Free Sailing by Duncan Wells – a real treasure for anyone sailing alone. Two of the maneuvers from the book are now part of my regular single-handed routine.
👉 If you’re interested: The book is available at Delius Klasing:

📚 In Frankfurt you can also borrow the book (almost) free of charge from the city library.
🎥 Enjoy watching – and as always I’m happy to get comments, questions or suggestions!

A calm autumn weekend sailing trip on the IJsselmeer – from Hindeloopen to Enkhuizen and the bird island De Kreupel.
Strong winds on day one, light winds and fog later, and my first test with the Code Zero sail.
Peaceful moments, quiet waters – just sailing as it is.
📍 Route:
Hindeloopen → Enkhuize
Welcome aboard Paikea, my Hallberg-Rassy 310!
In this video, I’ll take you on a short room tour – from the deck and cockpit down below to the saloon, galley, and cabins. Along the way, I’ll show you why this boat is so well suited for single-handed sailing – smartly designed, safe, and easy to hand
Single-handed sailing trip: Around the northern IJsselmeer | Sailing into the Blues
A long weekend alone on my 31-foot sailboat – I set off from Hindeloopen on a short trip around the northern IJsselmeer. Fantastic anchorages, misty atmospheres, and quiet harbors make this trip special.
