Die beiden Komiker Puccinelli und Korwin führen ein erfolgreiches Leben als Varieté-Künstler und bringen so viele Leute zum Lachen. Auch privat sind die beiden gut befreundet. Dann jedoch werden sie zum Militärdienst abberufen und kommen in ein Trainingscamp, in dem sie auf den Korea-Krieg vorbereitet werden sollen. Puccinelli schafft es, zu einem Sergeant aufzusteigen und fortan lediglich Schreibarbeit in sicheren Büros zu erledigen. Korwin muss dagegen als einfacher Soldat seinen Dienst leisten und im Schlamm schlafen. Doch auch für Puccinelli ist das Leben nicht leicht, denn seine Ex-Freundin Millie taucht gerade in dem Moment auf, als er sich für die hübsche Helen zu interessieren beginnt. Das sorgt natürlich für Probleme unter den Frauen, die seine volle Aufmerksamkeit erfordern und das, obwohl der Krieg doch eigentlich viel wichtiger sein sollte.
