🇱🇾 Libya - President Addresses United Nations General Debate, 77th Session (English) | #UNGA

Mohamed Younis Menfi, President of the Presidential Council of the State of Libya, addresses the general debate of the 77th Session of the General Assembly of the UN (New York, 20 - 26 September 2022). After several rounds of dialogue, the different stakeholders in Libya have not yet reached an agreement on the constitutional rules for the parliamentary and presidential elections, the president of the Presidential Council told the General Assembly. Addressing Member States today (21 Sep), Mohamed Younis Menfi said the Presidential Council “continues to stress that these rounds of dialogue should not continue indefinitely” and is “ready to intervene to have the political process necessary to overcome the impasse.” Menfi stressed that Libya “is still trying to build its state institutions and consolidate the principles of democracy.” According to him, “the Libyan people have demonstrated to the entire world that they represent a unified nation.” “In spite of the challenges, the Libyan people, thanks to its clairvoyance, tolerance and patriotism, continue to work for a union united country. They give us the determination and hope to keep moving forward to realize their aspirations, build a state and pave the way for stability and prosperity,” said the President of the Presidential Council. Menfi also highlighted the economic situation of the country, saying that his Council “is attached to a transparent and fair management of oil revenue, which belongs to all Libyans.” The goal, he said, “is to have public funds not be a source of conflict and to benefit all Libyans in every corner of the country without geographical, political or other distinctions.” “If we managed to achieve this goal, it will reduce the current conflict for power and create a climate that is favorable for a democratic transition,” concluded the leader. ---------------------------------------- The UN General Assembly (UNGA) is the main policy-making organ of the Organization.
