The Psychology of Excuses – How People Justify Hurting Others
Moral disengagement is a process of cognitive restructuring that allows individuals to distance themselves from their inner moral standards and act unethically without feeling uncomfortable doing so. It's the story we tell ourselves so as not to feel bad about inhumane acts that would normally violate our moral principles, or the excuses we make to avoid feeling guilty about hurting others.
