How does the PCR test work?
PCR stands for “Polymerase Chain Reaction”. It is a method to specifically track down and reproduce genetic material. In principle similar to a copier. In order for the copier to know what to duplicate, it needs a suitable template - a unique DNA sequence of the virus. Such typical locations in the genome of Sars-CoV-2 are known. With the help of a tool: a so-called “primer” that was synthesized in advance to search for precisely these points, this sequence is tracked down in the sample.
