Rousseau's philosophy of education is based on the idea that children should develop a strong, virtuous character, the capacity for reason, and a refined sense of feeling.
To explain his ideas, Rousseau wrote the book "Emile or On Education". It tells the story of a boy who goes through childhood, adolescence, prepuberty, adolescence and adulthood.

CLASSROOM EXERCISE
In this exercise, the class will learn about Rousseau's work "Emile, or on Education" and its development.
Share this with the class: According to Rousseau, an Enlightenment thinker, a good education is an education that does not contain man-made constructs to control other people.
Ask students what they think of this concept and how it differs from traditional education at school and at home.
Show the class the video of Sprout's "Rousseau's 5 Stages of Natural Learning."
Ask the class what similarities and differences they see between Rousseau's work and traditional education and teaching.
Ask the class what they think is better between Rousseau's ideas of education and traditional parenting, and why. Tell them to also address in their response the impact they think both parenting styles have on individuals and on society.
According to Rousseau, Emile needed a tutor to protect herself from the influence of outside ideas. Ask the class if they think the tutor is not influencing Emile by filtering the ideas Emile is exposed to.
