Dubec berichtet, wie er von einem gewissen Harold Latimer entführt und an einem ihm unbekannte Ort gezwungen wurde in Französisch ein Dokument aufzusetzen, welches dem Inhaber die Kontrolle über die Geschäftsfähigkeit einer scheinbar sehr kranken Frau überträgt. Die Situation spitzt sich zu, als Dubec kurz nachdem er Sherlock Holmes alles berichten konnte - erneut entführt wird.
