Social Intelligence - 5 Mental Skills to Succeed in Society
Social intelligence is the ability to know oneself and others in order to be able to correctly assess one's own actions and those of other people. It is made up of five skills: sympathy, self-awareness, empathy, metacognition and theory of mind. Those who lack social intelligence can misunderstand others, which can have tragic consequences.

EXERCISE IN THE CLASSROOM
Prepare a piece of dark chocolate and tell the students in class that they will have the so-called "bittersweet experience". Have them all sit in a circle and tell them that they are getting a piece of chocolate. So they should open their hands and close their eyes. After sitting there for 1-2 minutes with your eyes closed and hands open, walk around in a circle and give everyone a piece of chocolate. Then ask them to open their eyes, and then ask one of the others to share what they were thinking and why. You and the other students will notice that each of them had different expectations for the same exercise. Some may not have expected anything, others 2 pieces of chocolate. Such expectations are often associated with memories of one's own childhood. The exercise trains self-awareness and metacognition and shows that while we all belong to the same group and are likely to feel compassion, our understanding of the feelings (empathy) or thoughts (theory of mind) of others is limited.
