There are 4 widely researched parenting styles: authoritative, permissive, authoritarian, and neglectful. The styles range from controlling to unpretentious, from cold and unresponsive to loving and receptive. In recent years, overly involved parents, who are present in every aspect of their child's life, are often referred to as the 5th generation. They are also known as snowplow or helicopter parents.

EXERCISE IN THE CLASSROOM
Invite each child in the class to write anonymously on a piece of paper what they think their parents have adopted and how it has affected them. Ask them to be brief. At the top, they can simply write down the parenting style, and at the bottom, no more than 10 words about the impact on them. Then collect all the pieces of paper and read them aloud. If you wish, you can discuss with the class why they think parents have a certain parenting style. Is this due to the grandparents, the economic situation or perhaps something else?
