Jifunze misingi kuhusu electrolysis.
Electrolysis ni mtiririko wa umeme wa sasa kupitia kioevu ambayo husababisha mabadiliko ya kemikali. Kioevu kinaweza kuwa kiwanja cha ionic kilichochombwa au suluhisho la maji.
Kioevu kitakuwa na ions chanya zinazozunguka bure na ions hasi. Ions chanya huitwa cations, na ions hasi huitwa anions.
Electrodes huingia ndani ya kioevu (ufumbuzi wa electrolyte) na kushikamana na kiini cha umeme.
Electroni zitaanza kuzunguka kwenye waya na hii itasababisha electrode moja kuwa chaji chanya (anode) na nyingine kushtakiwa vibaya (cathode). Hii ina athari ya haraka ya kugonga katika kioevu kilichochombwa, na ions ndani yake.
Ions chanya katika kioevu (electrolyte) huvutiwa na electrode hasi (cathode).
Ions hasi katika kioevu (electrolyte), itavutiwa na electrode nzuri (anode).
Hii ni kwa sababu mashtaka kinyume ya umeme huvutia.
Wakati ions kukutana na electrodes, kubadilishana elektroni hutokea na hii husababisha mmenyuko wa kemikali.
Kumbuka kwamba electrolysis pia inaweza kufanyika katika ufumbuzi wa ionic pamoja na misombo ya kuyeyuka.
