Bioplastics, biodegradable

To date crude oil has been seen as the most important material in the chemical industry. ThyssenKrupp is developing an alternative: a process in which bacteria produce lactic and succinic acids. Lactic and succinic acids can be used to produced bio-based plastics, which are biodegradable. Around 4.5 million tons of polyethylene could be replaced by bioplastics every year in the coming years.
