Let's talk! Guillaume and the Special Forces, ehm the special tool!

I’m Guillaume, I am a software engineer for alugha. I’m a dog person and I like making a fool of myself every time someone is unfortunate enough to organize a karaoke party.


What’s your relationship with alugha?

It started well. We walk in parks, we see a lot of movies and we generally have a lot of fun. I'm thinking of taking it to the next level, I even bought a ring but shhhhh, it's a secret.


What’s your function at alugha?

I'm part of the alugha Code Monkey Special Forces™. We type random letters on keyboards and we know that if we keep doing it long enough, in the end it will make sense.


So, what’s the thing with that magic tool? Why is it so important for alugha and for everyone else?

We are trying to save people a lot of time by letting them edit sounds, from their web browser. That means you don't need to install some very complicated software suite anymore, and you can really do that from everywhere. When that works, I believe a lot of options will be available for alugha to grow.


What do you like about the work?

That it barely sounds like work: I get to toy with new technologies, I’m working with some old friends and pleasant new faces, we’re constantly cracking jokes and we all push in the same direction.


As a developer you always tinker on new, exciting tools and functions. What do you think, which are the most meaningful developments and functions in the technology and online area? What could also be interesting for alugha?

The development community is somehow moving back to native development, and cool new languages are appearing like D, Go and Rust. Older languages are also getting more interesting features, as we have seen with C++, so I'm very hopeful that we can start writing safer and faster code again.
On the scripting side, there has been a lot of efforts towards making the technology more professional and there are exciting projects like Angular, Ember or React that make development much easier. The faster and more streamline development is, the better for alugha.


If you think about future, where do you see yourself and the company in 10 years?

If I ever have the chance of talking to a 10 year older version of myself, I'm pretty sure we’ll have more important topics to discuss than our meeting location.
I make sure never to plan further than a couple months: the best recipe to miss opportunities is to want things to happen exactly the way you hope. They won't. Keep an open eye, and things will happen which will surprise and inspire you. I will surprise myself, alugha will surprise me, and we'll all have a lot of fun. That's all I ask for.


The last point is about big dreams, what are they?

Everything that stands between speaking decent German and visiting Mars. Eating lots of Burgers without suffering the consequences would be great as well.
